Overview:

Developing a Medical Equipment Criticality Assessment Tool for Biomedical Engineering Departments
At The Ottawa Hospital (TOH), the Biomedical Engineering department manages thousands of medical devices through a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) that supports preventive and corrective maintenance strategies.  This presentation discusses their  objective to design a scoring system that minimizes subjectivity and variability while leveraging concepts from established risk-based frameworks and adapting them for practical PM/CM decision-making.

Evaluation of a Regional CMMS
Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) solutions are crucial for asset tracking of medical devices in healthcare. The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) uses e-Automate as its CMMS to track its assets and preventive and corrective maintenance. CHEO provides services to other hospitals in the region, which is why the functions and operability of the CMMS are important. However, it has noticeable limitations in its functions, especially for a regional program. This research aims to identify these gaps and explore the specifications of a CMMS should meet to be compatible with a regional program.

The Ottawa Carleton Institute of Biomedical Engineering (OCIBME) Master of Biomedical Engineering (MEng) with a concentration in Clinical Engineering prepares students to bridge engineering and healthcare through applied, real-world learning. With hands-on hospital internships and close collaboration with clinical teams, students gain practical experience where patient care happens. Graduates are equipped to lead innovation, technology management, and safety in modern healthcare systems. This webinar will present 2 CE intern students and their internship project. Get to see as the program expands how the students are already contributing to the field of Clinical/Biomedical Engineering.
